We left Thursday at 11 for a weekend on the lakes. First we went to Grandma and Grandpa Ed's cottage in Michigan There we did some fishing and swimming, went for both a speed boat and a pontoon boat ride, had a bonfire and ate s'mores and tried to relax a little.
The kids have their own fishing poles with little rubber fish to attach to the end to learn how to cast. We decided that Caleb was good enough to try with a hook and caught his first fish!
Lucy, our brave little adventurer, wanted to go tubing behind the boat. Snuggled onto dad's lap, she kept asking to go faster and was smiling the whole time.
It was Toby's first time fishing and he loved it. He pushed the button and his green fish would drop into the water, he'd reel it in and drop it again.
Daddy waterskiied around the lake and the kids wanted to try it too, on land of course.
On Saturday we continued on to Grandpa and grandma Sue's house in Indiana (Aunt Emily was there too). There we went for a paddle boat ride, did a lot of swimming, saw and heard a lot of fireworks and did some relaxing (even Mom and Caleb got a nap in, a double miracle!).

In the water, Caleb was being extra adventurous. He was practicing holding his breath under water and even gave up his inner-tube for a noodle and then for a little raft. Lucy was begging to be thrown into the air to go underwater and kept showing off how she could hop on one foot even in the water.

Toby had no fear in the water. He was begging do "Da"(Dad) the whole time and was trying to jump in unassisted to get to him. He practiced his kicking on a noodle and was sad when his lips started turning blue and we had to take him out of the lake.
Caleb was such a sweet brother this weekend. At least twice this weekend, he had something that he had asked for and had been so excited about, when Lucy started whining that she wanted it. Both times, he just gave them up to her all on his own.
Lucy was super patriotic. She was making up and singing songs about America, she yelled out and sang Happy Birthday to America many times, and she pointed out anything and everything that was red, white and blue, "Look Mom, there are American colors because it is America's birthday."

Everyday, Toby is saying at least one new word. Caleb and Lucy are getting a huge kick out of it. Every time they hear him say something new, even if it is not really a word, they run to tell me the good news. My favorite word of the weekend was "Wow" which he said every time we heard a firecracker, which being on a lake on the 4th of July where fireworks are legal, was quite a bit. He was the best part of watching the fireworks. Toby is also a little funny man. Everyday he does things and holds the pose as best he can to show everyone and then laughs. Usually this is with sunglasses or a hat, but here he is with his corn on the cob, which he made sure everyone at the table saw.
All in all, it was a great weekend.
